Life Drawing — The Book Club

We were commissioned by The Book Club in Shoreditch to create a film which would inspire more artists to take part in the life drawing classes they held.

Our Idea

Our observation was that in a life drawing class, artists stand in a circle and each of them captures a slightly different perspective of the model. By filming each easel and cutting between them, we created the illusion of a 360 ‘bullet time’ film of the model appearing to dance across the easels.

The Process

Working with 12 illustrators in 12 different styles, we filmed each artwork from blank canvas to finished illustration over the course of a day. Cutting between the drawings we gradually built up the edit to create the stop motion effect.

We collaborated with David Kamp to create a bespoke musical composition that echoed the natural fluidity of the illustrations.
